Ever since I was a little girl I was put in some kind of uniform, a standard I had to live up to. My skirt had to be ironed, my shirt never missing a button wearing it with the most uncomfortable shoes that kept me standing still. I was tied down to a schedule that I didn’t have a say in. But today I do. Today I sink my feet in the sand with no other worry than the tide reaching my chair. Today I lay under the sun with no distractions and the only birds chirping are the ones flying above me not a blue one on my phone.

I just sit there taking in the best light nature has to offer. Today I understand that I don’t have to live up to anyone’s expectations but my own. I finally grasp the idea that happily doing nothing means so much more than miserably doing anything. So what if I fall asleep to the rising sun and wake up to a messy kitchen. I make the rules and I break them.I am the girl who doesn’t wake up with perfect hair.

Who prefers a Big Mac instead of a salad. The girl who doesn’t wear fifty pounds of makeup. The one who’d rather spend the day in sweatpants than skinny jeans. I’m the girl who loves the comfort of sweatshirts and t-shirts. The girl who sticks to sneakers instead of heels. The one that’s not afraid to break a nail. And most importantly the one that doesn’t need a guy to tell her I’m beautiful or sexy, I know who I am. I don’t need him to call me his Queen… I’m King of my castle.

As I run by the water in my bare feet with the wind blowing threw my hair I feel free. I feel liberated and I feel strong. Nothing feels better than carrying my own weight and no one else’s. With an armor tailored for my comfort I break off all my chains and just run. For once, I’m neither running away from something nor running after another. I’m just running.
